Metro Food Market
Metro Food Market is a welcome new addition to the retail landscape in Bloemfontein. This impressive store, with its 4,500m² trading space, offers both retail and wholesale customers a wide product range. Arch is the POS solution of choice with 11 check-outs in the retail and 4 in the wholesale section, all equipped with PT6215 Touch Screen compact POS machines.
The store has a large wholesale department, a grocery section, a butchery, fruit & veg, as well as a comprehensive frozen food selection. A number of the products in the store are manufactured in the family factory in Botshabelo and the impressive fresh produce range is primarily bought in directly from farmers countrywide. We wish Mr Caldera and his sons Peter and Johny all the best with the store and assure you of our support in achieving success.
Another Rhino is Born
Rhino Cash & Carry, part of Cambridge Food (subsidiary of Masscash) and long standing client of Arch, has recently opened the latest store in the now well known village of Nkandla. Rhino has 22 Cash & Carry’s and 17 Liquor Stores active on Arch, with the next store scheduled to open in Mount Frere late October.
The opening of the store has seen the usual “feeding frenzy” with expectant local customers swooping on the specials. The store has the usual Departments, i.e. Groceries, Fruit & Veg, Bakery, Butchery and Take Aways. The store has 32 check-outs, where All-in-One TowerPOS Touch Screen machines are operational – integrated EFT and Virtual Airtime are available at POS. The store is further part of the Arch Enterprise grid (Central HO Merchandising Solution). An adjacent liquor store will be added shortly. We wish Paul Oosthuysen and his team all the best with the new addition to the Rhino stable!
Italy Comes To Pretoria
Old Town Italy, a real gem has recently opened in Menlyn Maine Central Square (Pretoria). Old Town Italy originates from a similar store in Umhlanga, which also runs on Arch. The store offers the discerning shopper a deli with ready-made meals, free-range boutique butcher, bakery, authentic Italian pastas, wood fired pizzas, Gelato and fresh organic fruit & veg. In addition the wine room can also be used as a conference facility. The 1,000m² store also offers customers a classy 320 seater restaurant with true Italian ambiance.
In addition to Arch Retail running in both stores, Arch is also employed in the group’s DC, from where products are transferred to different cost centres within the stores. Congratulations to Chris and the rest of the team on the new addition to the family!
Jacksons Real Food
The name of this Speciality Food store in Sandton says it all, “Jacksons Real Food” The store prides itself in only selling natural foods free of growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and false or misleading ingredients or flavours. The overall quality of the products on the shelf is something to behold for the true connoisseur. Arch as a top quality POS solution is a good fit in this store…
The store offers the following sections: Juice Bar, Coffee Bar, Gelato, Restaurant and Pizza Bar. There are 11 check-outs with the following Touch Screen POS machines: 3 x WT100, 6 x ST630 and 2 x MiniTowers (restaurant section). The store also offers a Call-and-Collect service, where customers drive through and collect orders – can also order take away’s here from a limited menu. We thank Gary Jackson, the owner of the store, for partnering with Arch and are proud to be associated with such a superior brand!
Seafood Retail Chain Joins Arch
Blue Atlantic Trading is a well established Cape Town company offering frozen seafood primarily to other seafood wholesalers countrywide. As part of their growth strategy, their retail operation, trading under the Fish Rite banner, will be grown firstly in the Western Cape, but later also into other geographical areas.
Their previous POS solution in the stores was a barrier to growing the operation due to insufficient and inaccurate business intelligence. Arch Retail was evaluated and selected as the software solution to address this. The first store, of 5 in the Western Cape, has recently gone live in Philippi Plaza (Cape Town). The store sells frozen produce, canned products, and offers a take away section for the convenience of their customers. The next step in the Arch solution will be the introduction of Arch Enterprise and Financial Integration once all stores are up and running. We thank Terence Cottle and the rest of their management team for selecting us as their business partners.
Top Save Mossel Bay
Top Save in Mossel Bay has recently gone live with Arch. The store has 9 check-outs with SP630 Touch Screen POS machines. Integrated card transactions are offered at all POS points, in partnership with Innervation.
Top Save is a hybrid store offering both retail and wholesale products to their customers. In addition to the grocery store, an adjacent liquor store will be opening shortly, also running on Arch (3 SP630 POS points). We welcome Arnold Gagiano and his store team to the Arch family! Also a word of thanks to Fermino Gomes, from UMS for his support with the store.
Field Target World Championships

Gerhard Genade and Michael Olivier recently represented South Africa at the Field Target World Championships in Portugal. It is a young and little known sport and members of the team were responsible for covering all their costs. Spinnaker supported Gerhard and Michael with a sponsorship.
In trying conditions, with strong winds, high humidity and temperatures soaring to in excess of 40˚C, the competition was very challenging, seeing a number of participants withdrawing during the competition. In the team event, where all members’ scores are added together over 3 days, South Africa ended 2nd overall, only 4 points behind England. In the individual competition, Gerhard was in 22nd position and Michael overall 94th – 223 participants in total.
Congratulations to team South Africa and the two gentlemen for representing their country with pride!
